Based in the Bay Area for over a decade, THE MIGHTY MULES is a blues
band formerly known as Kickin’ The Mule that has been described as
“infectiously grooving” and “a groove-laden crossroads where slinky
T-Bone Walker-esque West Coast shuffles, Stax soul scorchers and raucous
Chicago blues all converge.”
The band evolved over years of performing at the legendary Cheese Board
Collective in Berkeley’s Gourmet Ghetto, where KICKIN’ THE MULE can be
heard most every Friday evening. Lead vocal duties are handled by
veteran drummer Kelvin Dixon, a versatile musician versed in blues,
R&B, rock ‘n’ roll, jazz and more. Lately he’s been dropping
“Werewolves of London” into sets. The band also includes Isabelle
Magidson on bass guitar, Lee Bloom on piano and organ, Jeff Magidson on
guitar, slide guitar and vocals, as well as saxophonist Mike Waters.
The year 2020 marks the release of YOU TALK TOO MUCH!, the band’s
latest recording. Consisting of ten live tracks featuring the lead
vocals of Kelvin and Jeff and spanning the gamut from such New Orleans
favorites as “Big Chief” and “Down Home Girl”, to a cover of Keb Mo’s
“Am I Wrong”, to “The Ninety-Nine”, an original blues shuffle lamenting
toxic assets, subprime lending and credit default swaps!
