With a lineup of locals, Take Off is headed up by electrician and drummer Scott DeMartini. Zakk Murphy is the bass player, Dustin Smart plays the guitar, George Meiling masters the keyboards, and David Grohol is on vocals.
DeMartini has spoken excitedly about his combo, saying, “We draw from ‘90s grunge – Pearl Jam, Green Day, Queens of the Stone Age. We are a full-on cover band.”
Murphy commented about the band’s focus on the ’90s catalog. “It’s the stuff I grew up with. I never thought I could play this stuff, and now I am. It is really stretching my repertoire. This is the band that gets me the most excited right now – it pushes me.”
