Singer-songwriter Marcos Pereda was born in Cuba in 1968 to a family of artists. Marcos has the gift of an angelic voice and a passion to communicate deep spiritual truth through words and music. He started playing guitar and composing songs when he was 17. Marco's music combines the melodic style of Nueva Trova (New Song) made popular by fellow Cuban Silvio Rodríguez, with Marco's own lyrics. The unique result is, as Marcos says, “Canciones del Espíritu”, Songs from the Spirit. In his music, sung in Spanish, one can hear elements of Flamenco and baroque in addition to traditional Cuban music.
In the 1980s
,Marcos was awarded first prize in the Cuban New Song festival in
Havana. After that, he started playing in venues such as Casas de
Cultura (cultural centers) around the capital, the Fine Arts Museum, the
Spanish Embassy, the theater of the Plaza de la Revolución, and the
Cafe Cantante of the National Theater.
