Lara Louise

Born and raised in the city of Nijmegen in the Netherlands, Lara taught herself how to play the guitar, inspired by artists such as Elizabeth Cotten, Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell. Later, she became influenced by jazz and bossa nova singers like Billie Holiday, Madeleine Peyroux and Astrud Gilberto, and was particularily drawn to French jazz.

All these different influences make up for a tasteful variety of classic songs from different genres and in different languages, tied together with her unique style and soft soothing voice. Lara plays a diverse array of music. One moment she might perform a song by Mazzy Star and then effortlessly switch to Edith Piaf's 'La Vie en Rose'. Her interpretations are simple and pure, with a focus on the feeling and the melody.

After studying philosophy in the Netherlands, Lara started pursuing music fulltime and moved to California in 2020. She started playing venues and private events in the San Francisco Bay Area and also started recording her first album, together with producer, sound engineer and multi-instrumentalist Gawain Mathews. The recorded songs can be found on Spotify and Itunes.

Lara Louise usually plays solo, but is also available in a duo or a trio setting.
