Kern Richards

With his Tom Waits-like gravel voice and Johnny Cash style, Kern Richards speaks to the Country Western traditional audience as well as to the rocker in us all. His songs of heartbreak, loneliness and dissolution are sung by a master storyteller with a unique sense of humor, irony and warmth.

A native of Southern California, Kern started his solo musical career at the world-famous Palomino Club in North Hollywood, and has performed at venues including the legendary Milestone, Ronnie Mack’s Barn Dance, The Cinema Bar, The Blue Cafe in Long Beach, The Claremont Folk Center, The Fret House, Healdsburg Performing Arts Center and has toured throughout the U.S.

Kern performs his style of Americana/Roots as a solo act, and also backed by his prestigious band mates. He has shared the stage with a diverse range of top performers including American Folk Legend Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Country songwriter Chris Gaffney, L.A. Bluesman Top Jimmy, Dave Alvin (The Guilty Men, Blasters, X), I See Hawks in L.A., Western soul artists the Hacienda Brothers, Flea, cowpunks Tex And The Horseheads, percussionist Stephen Hodges (Tom Waits', Mavis Staples), and songwriter/producer Stevie Tombstone, among many others.

His latest album, "Anywhere But Home" includes performances by virtuoso guitarists Tony Gilkyson (Bob Dylan, X) and Jeff Ross (Rank & File, Brooks & Dunn), bassist Mike Barry (Freddy Fender, Chris Gaffney), and drummer John Senne (Chris Gaffney & The Cold Hard Facts.) The album is produced by multi-instrumentalist Jim Shirey (Phil Spector, Leon Russell, Steve Gillette).

"Anywhere But Home," was released by Austin's ALTCO Recordings in November 2013, along with the single and video of "10 More Miles" in February 2014 - and both have garnered solid reviews in publications such as NO DEPRESSION magazine, and radio airplay nationally as well as in Europe.
