JimBo Trout

“Some of the most uncompromising, hot music to singe these ears in a long time.“–Fiddler Magazine

JimBo Trout and the Fishpeople are a true San Francisco musical experience. Their music knows no boundaries as they explore the limits of bluegrass, swamp-blues, swing, honky-tonk country, cowboy, folk, ragtime, jazz, Latin, early rock+roll, jug band, New Orleans, and old-time mountain music.

Headed by hirsute humorist, singer, yodeler, and player of the guitar, banjo, harmonica and kazoo JimBo Trout seeks to entertain one and all. He is known for his passionate and energetic approach to performance.  JimBo can be frequently spotted playing solo at  clubs, parties, farmer’s markets, children’s shows, as well as frequent duo shows with Steve and  gigs with the band. JimBo hosted the monthly Bluegrass Jam at the Atlas Cafe from 1998-2017 which for many years was the proving ground for all up-and-coming bluegrass pickers in the Bay Area. He also held a weekly gig at San Francisco’s old 3300 Club playing mostly old-time music from 1998-2001. JimBo is sometimes referred to as “the Victor Borge of bluegrass.”

They regularly perform under the influence of Louis Armstrong, Blind Blake, Uncle Dave Macon, Tommy Jarrell, The Mississippi Sheiks, Oscar Aleman, Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys, Milton Brown and his Musical Brownies, The Carter Family, Scotty Stoneman, Charlie Parker, Django Reinhardt, Vassar Clements, Memphis Minnie, Robert Nighthawk, Dr. John, Huey “Piano” Smith and the Clowns, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, George Jones, Willie Nelson, Andy Statman, Mose Allison, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Dock Boggs, Doc Watson, Harvey Sampson, Junior Parker, Big Maybelle, Big Bill Broonzy, Billie Holiday, Louis Jordan, Ray Charles, The Five Royales, and James Reese Europe, among many others!
