James & Alex have arranged great jazz tunes by Duke Ellington,Thelonious Monk, Horace Silver, Sonny Rollins & others for jazz guitar duets. We’re constantly adding tunes to our duet repertoire and generally play out in the Bay Area once or twice a month. James sings a few too—always a treat!
A few of the tunes:
Song for My Father, Well You Needn’t, I let a Song out of My Heart, Along Came Betty, Eronel, Groove Yard, Strollin, Blue Moon, Blue Monk.
We both have busy gig schedules on other projects—James’ dance band & Jazz Quartet are regular features around the Bay Area;
Alex is director & leader of Lady D and the Tramps, plays dates with Noel Jewkes, Tina Marzell, Karen Sudjian and the Brian Campbell Quartet
"Alex Markels' quartet album is a swingin' in-the-pocket affair which pays tribute and homage to the masters, their tradition, and their repertoire. If you're looking for REAL jazz, by consummate, accomplished musicians, you've come to the right place!"

"A wonderful set of tunes by talented Bay Area musicians, co-led by Alex Markels and multi-reedist Noel Jewkes, and featuring bassist Blake Richardson and drummer and recording engineer Jimmy Hobson. A delightful collection of jazz standards, swinging and melodic, and a feel-good session that deserves repeated listening. Pure joy!"
